Earlier this week Dr. Joseph Nguepi, president of IUGET Institut Universitaire des Grandes Écoles des Tropiques in Cameroon and executive vice president and chief academic officer Jean-Emile Nguepi visited this College of Nursing to further cement a partnership between the two institutions.


A team of East Carolina University faculty, led by Dr. Renee Spain, has secured a grant to provide training and simulators to help educate and professionalize Cameroon’s midwifery and maternal care system. While Cameroon’s maternal mortality has improved from 572 per 100,000 live births in 2000 to 258 in 2023, and is better positioned than its regional neighbors, pregnancy and birth remain a dangerous proposition.
